Movement in Silence - Photo series with the State Academic Song and Dance Ensemble With Abkhazia
“Movement in Silence” is a photo project based on the synthesis of documentary and artistic photography, created in collaboration with the State Academic Song and Dance Ensemble “Apkhazeti.” The Apkhazeti ensemble, which has served Georgian culture for decades, is presented in this photoshoot from a different perspective - not just as performers on stage, but as people carrying emotions who tell a story through movement.
Photoshoot concept - “Movement in Silence” - when dancers move. Silence remains the background, emphasizing the fluidity of the body, inner emotion, and the depth of choreography. Each photo in this project reflects hope, tension, freedom, or longing - each movement tells more than words can express.
The shoot took place outdoors, at a carefully chosen time to fully convey the fluidity and energy of the dance. The visual focus is on the lines of movement, muscle tension, and expressions. This technique not only creates an aesthetic result but also helps the viewer feel as if they are right in the middle of the movement.
The Apkhazeti ensemble stands out for its rich stage tradition and high-quality choreography. This professionalism became one of the main pillars of the photoshoot - the dancers perfectly control their bodies, yet at the same time manage to express free, spontaneous emotion. This creates a unique opportunity for the photographer: when technically perfect movement is emotionally contagious, the result is unforgettable.
This photo series is a visual representation of Georgian culture, dance, and photography. It expresses not only the aesthetics of movement but also the emotions that accompany the movement - emotions that the audience often cannot fully perceive from the stage. The shots create a voice in the silence. Each photo documents a moment that will never be repeated but will remain forever in the viewer’s memory.
The main goal of the photoshoot was to show that Georgian dance is a living heritage that continues to exist not only on stage but also in photographs. Collaboration with Bachana Chanturia turned into a powerful creative process that captures not only movement but also history through my lens.
